Grill Mill - Mansoor Ali Khan

Mansoor Ali Khan.

You started out as a villain, and were successful in character roles too. But, why do you keep looking to play the lead, an area you've not been successful in?

I've played the lead in nearly half-a-dozen films, and a couple of them did wonders for me. I primarily entered the film industry to play the protagonist. I studied at Actors Workshop, the institute headed by Anil Chowdhury. In fact, we took lessons from even Anupam Kher! I then moved to Chennai, and after toiling for nearly nine years, got a break in Valaikidachirukku. However, it was Captain Prabhakaran that shot me to fame.

You were not successful in politics.

That's because I felt like a fish out of water in it. But, I'll continue to work for the benefit of the people. Right now, I'm working on promoting the ills of alcoholism. In fact, my forthcoming film Ratham, directed by Vyas talks about this social malady.

Have you achieved what you wanted to?

No. I've done 140 films, including 10 ( Sembaruthi, Captain Prabhakaran, Natpukkaaga) silver jubilee hits, and 20 that ran for 100 days. However, I've not received any awards. But then, I consider audience appreciation a worthy award. I'm waiting for roles that will quench my thirst for acting.
