Music highlights
There are seven songs in the album. ‘Band' is a musical sequence by Band Kuberan and Band Murali. ‘Adi En Gana Mayil,' sung by Ayinijivaakkam Muthu, and ‘Nadukadalula Kappala,' written, composed and sung by Gana Bala, are good. ‘Aasai Oar Pulveli,' written by Kabilan, sung by Pradeep and Kalyani Nair, is the best. The same lyricist has written ‘Aadi Pona Aavani,' a gana number sung by Gaana Bala with Samba Soul influence. In this song, the accordion predominates. ‘Podi Vechi Pudippan,' a blend of funk and Tamil folk, is sung by Sathyan, Palakkad Sreeram and Brinda; it is written by Muthamil. ‘Vazhi Parthirundhen,' written by Pradeep, is an interesting number in Bossa Nova style.
What they say
Producer C. V. Kumar: I am basically from the travel trade. When I got the opportunity to produce a movie, I was elated. The film is a comic take on a youth who thinks he is superhuman. A highlight is a bus which comes in every other scene. The story travels from a village to an urban setting.
Director Pa. Ranjith: I've worked under Venkat Prabhu on his films — from Chennai 28 to Goa . Attakathi revolves around a youngster, his aspirations, struggles and the romance in his life. I've made use of the Madras lingo in the film, which is shot in and around the city and its outskirts. I've captured the beauty of the village, with its animals, houses and the rain, on camera.
Hero Dinesh: I left my house eight years ago to train in contemporary theatre such as Koothu-p-Pattarai, Magic Lantern and Moondram Arangu. I got a small role in E and Aadukalam . It was these films that helped me land the lead role in Attakathi . I must thank the director for giving me the role and the creative freedom to portray it the way I wanted. I think Attakathi will be a memorable film in my career.
Music director Santhosh Narayanan: Last year, I scored the music for the short film Athvaitham which fetched me the best composer award. After scoring the songs, we went to Sydney, Australia, to master them at Studios 301, where some of the best-known songs have been mastered. Leon Zervos, a well-known mastering engineer who has done work for Lady Gaga, Green Theatre and Ennio Morricone and won Grammy Awards, lent his services there.
