Academy Award—winning filmmaker Alfonso Cuaron will next be making a film that chronicles a year in the life of a middle-class family in Mexico City in the early 1970s. Cuaron is directing and writing this film, which is slated to hit the floors this fall in Mexico.

“This film is close to my heart and my first in Mexico since Y Tu Mama Tambien ," Cuaron said. "I am thrilled to be making it."

This is Cuaron's first film after the Academy Award-winning Gravity in 2013. Sources reveal that he had always intended to make a 'smaller' film after the big-budget Gravity .

“Alfonso is a master storyteller, who breaks cultural boundaries around the world by skillfully connecting audiences through the power of cinema. We are elated to be joining him on this film,” a spokesperson of Participant Media, the production house, said.
