On Saturday last, (December 8), Tamil stand-up comedian/TV anchor Bosskey returned to the stage with his new play, ‘Drama,’ in which he plays the lead. The play also features veteran film actor, Radha Ravi.
Apart from several social messages for the audience, the important one being global warming and the ways to prevent it, the play was a spoof on actors, brands and politics. Radha Ravi’s witty remarks about his film roles and current affairs were laudable.
Prabhakar (Bosskey) is the owner of a TV channel, celebrating its 10th anniversary, and ‘Indian Penal Code’ Kesavan (Radha Ravi) is a common man, who files complaints about every violation he comes across, from vehicles being parked in ‘No Parking’ zone to littering. When Kesavan decides to file a complaint against a celebrity like Prabhakar, things get messy for Kesavan — his daughter (Varsha) joins forces with Prabhakar. Whether Kesavan reforms Prabhakar and is rewarded for his efforts are what the rest of the story is about.
Radha Ravi, who always wanted to do a play through which he could get a message across to masses, said, he admired Bosskey’s sense of humour, which played a vital role in the duo deciding to come up with this play.
During a post-show chat, Bosskey said he gets angry whenever he notices someone breaking rules. Bosskey chose the problem of global warming because it is something that has to be solved collectively and not as individuals.
The music composer, Dakshin, deserves praise for combining his tunes with popular movie BGMs to suit the situation.
On the whole, the play scored on comedy and went well with the audience.
