Moment to cherish: Actor R. Narayana Murthy being presented Mahakavi Sri Sri award in Vijayawada on Thursday.

VIJAYAWADA: Popular film actor, director and producer R. Narayana Murthy, with his booming voice, made it clear that as long there was exploitation in society, the words of Mahakavi SriSri will be relevant and would continue to inspire the human beings.

Addressing a packed auditorium after receiving the Mahakavi SriSri award conferred on him by the X-ray Cultural Association and Nagarjuna Kala Parishad as part of the 34th death anniversary, he said his life took a turn for good after listening to the words of the Mahakavi.

“I was down and out as I was not getting chances in the film industry in Madras (now Chennai). But his song “Kala Kanidhi” emboldened me to continue my fight in the ever-fluctuating industry,” he said.

Mr. Murthy said he met Mahakavi in Chennai on several occasions during his stay in Chennai and what attracted him was his simplicity.

“Like NTR and ANR, the fan following for Mahakavi is awe-inspiring. His words and works will be relevant for generations as they project the facts of life without frills”. eom
