The Nadigar Sangam elections have been postponed indefinitely by the Registrar of Societies, four days before it was scheduled to be held. On Wednesday, the Registrar’s order said time was required to enquire about those who were suspended or dismissed from the association for a variety of reasons, and have been denied the right to vote. The order added that the elections would be stopped until then.

Sixty-two members of the Nadigar Sangam, who had voted in the previous elections, complained of their names missing from the voters’ list and consequently lodged a complaint with the Registrar of Societies, demanding an explanation.

The ‘Pandavar Ani’ team has alleged that this is a deliberate attempt to stop their faction from winning the elections, and that they would fight this issue legally. Several members of the Pandavar Ani, headed by actor Vishal, also met Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit earlier on Wednesday to seek protection to conduct a fair election. Vishal told reporters that they submitted a petition to the Governor on the issue.

Meanwhile, ‘Swami Sankaradas Ani’ leader K Bhagyaraj said, “The voter enrollment is improper and people have been removed without explanation. The election can't be held without the voters’ list being finalised and those whose names have been deleted informed of the reasons for the same. The failure to do this is why the elections have been postponed. The judge has agreed with this reasoning, as there are a lot of errors and discrepancies.”

The temporary cancellation of the elections comes amid confusion on the venue . The court denied permission to hold the event at Dr MGR Janaki College of Arts and Science for Women stating that it would cause traffic issues and disturbance to the public.
