The ‘Despacito’ craze is never-ending. As the original track by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee plays around the globe, we catch up with Grammy award-winner Tanvi Shah on her rendition of the viral hit:

We have to ask. Why ‘Despacito’?

My friend Vivek Agrawal, who’s also sung on this track, and I are huge fans of the song. We were jamming it and thought it’d be fun to record our own version of it.

You’ve also retained the Spanish lyrics from the original. Was that because of your familiarity with the language?

Guilty as charged. I love singing in Spanish. I think for an Indian girl to sing in Spanish is just outright amazing.

You’ve worked with the best of the best in the playback space. Why re-enter the independent scene?

For me, it’s broadening my horizons. Even with a cover, it’s my artistic take on it. At the end of the day, music is universal.
