If you are a fan of actress and playback singer Andrea Jeremiah, you probably know that her musical repertoire goes beyond the industry.

Andrea, who has sung popular songs like ‘Google Google’ from Thuppakki and ‘Idhu Varai’ from Goa , also dabbles in songwriting herself. She has come out with some independent tracks of her own, with guitarist Keba Jeremiah and other musical talents. ‘Moment at a time’, for instance, is a gentle, husky love song dominated by Leon James’ piano keys. Written by Andrea and arranged by Leon, the three-year-old track gives the singer plenty of scope to explore the range of her voice.. The two-year-old official video, directed by photographer Sunder Ramu, has raked a little over 38,000 views on YouTube so far.

The singer is now taking her own music off the screens and onto stage. Watch her perform original numbers at Bay 146 this weekend, accompanied by Leon James, Keba Jeremiah, keyboardist Karthik Joseph, percussionist Krishna Kishore and bassist Naveen: together they call themselves The Jeremiah Project.

“It’s going to be a mixed bag: a little bit of my Tamil hits and some songs I have written. The Tamil songs represent Andrea Jeremiah the playback singer/actor, and the English songs showcase who I am as a singer/songwriter,” says Andrea. “The singer/songwriter space is the most personal one, because you aren’t writing songs for an audience. It is such a beautiful thing when something so personal resonates with other people. That is the magic of music!”

Her performance in the intimate confines of the pub, stands in sharp contrast to another performance scheduled later this month. Andrea will be joining AR Rahman on stage for a concert at Dubai’s Coca-Cola arena.

Says Andrea, “I am excited to be performing alongside ARR. I am a huge fan of his music and just who he is as a person.” She adds, “being a small part of a large-scale show also shifts the perspective on things for someone like me, who is used to doing a 90-minute live set with my band.” Attuned as she is to performing as a band, Andrea has not played a gig at this particular venue before: “This is actually the first time I am performing at Bay 146,” she says.

She concludes, “This is going to take me back to my college days, when we used to perform at the Vineyard centre.”

The Jeremiah Project will perform on November 8 at 9 pm, at Bay 146, Mylapore. Call 9710976876.
