Get set for an evening of music — contemporary gospel and classical —which will be presented by a two-year-old choir group called Rhapsody. They will be accompanied by the Bangalore String Ensemble.
Called ‘All I got to do is Praise Him’, the choir is directed and will be conducted by Sudhakar John Doraiswamy, and will also feature songs from the Gaither Vocal Band.
Rhapsody was founded by Sudhakar and his wife Caroline in 2016. “We started as a choir group that performs coral music and registered it as a charitable trust. We have worked with special needs children and prepared them for a concert. We raise funds through our concerts. Every year, we alternate between a sacred concert in a church and a show at a commercial complex. ‘All I got to do is praise him’ is a sacred concert,” explains Sudhakar, a musician and teacher. He has a degree in church music from the Philippines and has been “working as a choir conductor since 1992. I was also the choir director for St Mark’s Cathedral.”
Who does the choir cater to? “It is open to anyone who loves classical music. Non-Christians also love such music. We are performing Mozart’s Missa Longa, which is technically challenging to the choir,” adds the choir conductor, who teaches music at Sacred Heart’s School and Jyothi Nivas college, training the choir group in both institution.
The choir will be held on September 23 at 6.30 pm at St Andrews Church. The event is open to all.
