Deepika’s greatest asset is her voice. That makes things easier for this young vocalist with her training under the renowned Sudha Ragunathan. It comes through in the presentation of kritis. For her 90-minute concert, Deepika had chosen Pantuvarali, a majestic and vivacious raga, for a detailed delineation. Deepika explored the raga well and packed her alapana with energetic motifs and judicious passages of brigas.
Tyagaraja’s ‘Saramegani’ with niraval and swaras on ‘Sama Gana Loludu’ was adequately addressed within the time limit. A potent Dhanyasi and ‘Sangeetha
Gnanamu’ (Tyagaraja) was yet another good offering. To keep up the tempo of the concert, Deepika added colourful compositions such as ‘Ninne Bhajana’ (Tyagaraja) in Nattai, ‘Unnadiyae Kadi’ (GNB) in Bahudari and ‘Enna thavam’ (Sivan) in Sivan.
She was accompanied by SP Ananthapadmanabha on violin, Trichur KMS Mani on mridangam and G Ravichandran on ghatam .
