Yami Gautam on why she loves Delhi and content-driven films

It is a cold December afternoon in Delhi but Yami Gautam is yet to feel the chill. “I am waiting to feel the winters. I’m coming from Himachal via Chandigarh and was hoping to have the same wintry feel here but I missed that chilling feeling,” says Yami, in the Capital to launch the Fall-Winter 2018 collection of Swatch. Her relationship with Delhi is primary work-centric but she likes coming back for the love of chaat. She made her debut with Vicky Donor, a Delhi film, which strengthened her understanding of the people and the milieu. “I love coming back again and again because here I am always welcomed with a smile. The cheer and laughter of the people around pumps you up and it’s not that far from my home town (Bilaspur).”

Vicissitudes of life

After Kaabil, Sarkar 3 and Batti Gul Meter Chalu, Yami has a fair amount of work to keep her busy. There have been a fair share of ups and downs in her career, but she has found a space for herself. She is modest about her accomplishments.

“Here no one teaches you anything. Everything you learn, you learn on the go. It is not an easy place to be in, but I have a lot of respect for the industry as it gave me an identity. I am not a trained actor and I am not a Mumbai girl. I am a simple girl from Himachal Pradesh who is trying to find her way. You need to be as comfortable with your failures as you are with achievements. Only then you will be able to move forward and sustain here successfully,” says Yami who will soon be seen in Uri alongside Vicky Kaushal.

Quality content

Yami says she tries to be part of films which have quality content. “It is not possible every time but I try. I am glad I started with a content-driven film and I am glad that I have been a part of films with special subjects. I am looking forward to Uri which is based on the Uri attack and the surgical strikes,” she adds.

The 30-year-old actress is the face of many brands and a social media favourite. For her, accessories make a huge contribution to one's styling. “I love accessories and I have watches in abundance. But, you do not you have to over accessorise or overdress. For me, being stylish means that you stick to your personality and do it in a classy way. Though I love wearing the same watch, I can change it depending on what I am going to wear and I have a lot of designs and colours,” she says. “I have a personal and emotional connection with Swatch. It was my first ever luxury gift from my father when I was in 9th standard,” she remembers. Though Yami is amongst the most fashionable celebrities in the country, she maintains she lets her personality governs her styling decisions. She frankly admits that she doesn’t follow any fashion trends. “I have no understanding of trends and I do not know what is in. I just go and wear what I feel looks nice for my personality and body type.”
