She credits the late actor and his movies for influencing her life and career choices

Having been involved in theatre, music and dance since childhood, I began pursuing my two biggest passions — Medicine and sailing — inspired by two movies.

The first one is Hook (1991). It is my first memory of watching a movie. Robin Williams plays Peter Pan, and I watched it sitting in one of the front rows at Sathyam cinemas (now SPI) with my family.

The fight sequence on the pirate ship was my favourite scene from the movie. The stupendous size of the ship on the sea fascinated me.

Looking back at the experience now, I realise that the pirate ship from Hook made a huge impression on the then five-year-old me. All these years later, the movie still remains close to my heart.

Another movie that has had a big influence on me is Patch Adams (1998).

This movie is one of the reasons behind the start of medical clowning projects in India. This practice uses laughter as a form of therapy to bring control back to patients.

Patch Adams revolutionised the role of a doctor, and the ways in which treatment is brought to the patient.

As I am India’s first medical clown doctor, and being a part of The Little Theatre hospital clown troupe, I can see the transition in the way children look at doctors as fun people now, as opposed to scary people who are there to poke them with sharp needles!

The movie portrays the wonderful marriage of medicine and art. And since it was based on a real person, Dr Hunter Adams, who lives in the US even today, the movie was more inspiring. Robin Williams being in the movie makes it even more dear to me.
