Akshay Kumar and south Indian remakes: could there be a better combo? After it was confirmed recently that his upcoming Bachchan Pandey is a remake of Ajith Kumar’s Veeram , now Akshay is taking on a Vijay hit: the 2014 blockbuster Kaththi, directed by A.R. Murugadoss.

The Bollywood remake will be directed by filmmaker Jagan Shakti, who is currently working with Akshay Kumar on Mission Mangal , that is slated for a release soon. The movie will be titled Ikka.

Ikka will follow the same storyline of the Tamil original, with Akshay Kumar in dual roles. Kaththi also starred Samantha Akkineni and Neil Nitin Mukesh, with music by Anirudh Ravichander. The film showcased the plight of farmers who suffer due to corporate companies encroaching upon their land, and the many ramifications that happen.

Apparently, Ikka was supposed to happen much earlier, but was delayed due to Mission Mangal taking prominence. Akshay Kumar and Jagan Shakti are awaiting the release of the film on August 15, which is based on India’s Mangalyaan or Mars Orbiter Mission. It stars a cast of features of Taapsee Pannu, Nithya Menen, Sonakshi Sinha, Kirti Kulhari and Sharman Joshi.
