Anticipating the buzz before the release of actor Vijay's latest film, Mersal , Twitter has launched an emoji dedicated to the movie.

This is the first time the social networking site has launched an emoji dedicated to a Tamil film.

Simply tweeting with #Mersal will enable the emoji - inspired by Vijay's role in the film - to pop-up alongside the hashtag.

"Twitter has become an integral part of communication now. We are very happy to associate with Sony Music India & Twitter India who have come up with the Mersal Emoji, a first in South India. We are sure Vijays fans are going to love it," said a statement released by Twitter.

Mersal is actor Vijay's 100th film and has a stellar cast list that includes actors like Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Kajal Aggarwal, Nithya Menen, Sathyaraj, S.J. Suryah and Vadivelu, among others.

The film has been written and directed by Atlee, with maestro A.R. Rahman composing the film's score.

The first single from the film, Aalaporaan Thamizhan , was released on August 11, and the audio release is slated for August 20.

The film is set to release on Deepavali 2017.
