Arthur Curry a.k.a Aquaman had a fantastic introduction in 2017’s Justice League , a teaser if you will. With his larger-than-life personality and dry humour, Jason Momoa’s character was one of the best things about the film.
Aquaman , set to release later this year, promises to deliver on that teaser. The trailer for the film, which was released at the San Diego Comic Con late on Saturday, gives us glimpses of the unreal world of Atlantis, the underwater kingdom.
The story follows the events of Justice League but also delves into Arthur Curry’s origins — his mother was Queen Atlanna (Nicole Kidman in a guest role), and his father a humble lighthouse-keeper from the surface. Curry’s half-brother Orm is set to become king and wage war on the ‘surface-dwellers’, while Curry himself has to make a decision regarding the Kingship.
The trailer not only features some extensive — and gorgeous — CGI work of the underwater kingdom but also scenes of the impending battle between the forces from Atlantis and the surface.
Amber Heard stars as Mera, the daughter of a king of an Atlantiean tribe who has been raised and groomed by Queen Atlanna to be Queen herself, while The Conjuring ’s Patrick Wilson stars as Curry’s half-brother and contender to the throne, Orm.
The film is directed by horror-film expert James Wan ( Saw, The Conjuring, Insidious ) and is scheduled for release on December 21, 2018.
