The climax of the recently-released bilingual Solo , starring Dulquer Salman, was allegedly changed without the director’s consent. The director, Bejoy Nambiar, took to Twitter on Sunday to address concerns over the new version, saying he stood by the film he made.
“For all those asking about the changed ending. It has been done without my knowledge and consent. Good or Bad I stand by the film I made,” he tweeted.
The anthology film — consisting of four different stories — released on October 6 to mixed reviews. Each story in the film refers to an element of nature — air, water, fire and earth. And the lead character in each story, all played by Dulquer, is named after Shiva — Shekhar, Trilok, Shiva and Rudra.
Reports in several sections of the media have speculated that the change was due to audience’s dislike for how Rudra’s story ended. Abraham Mathew, who produced the film in Malayalam, told a daily that the only reason behind this move was to “show respect towards the audience's opinions”.
Solo had just a single-day run in Tamil Nadu, due to the ongoing strike by multiplex owners over the imposition of local body entertainment tax . Mr. Nambiar confirmed that the film would run un-changed in its Tamil version if it were to be re-released after the strike.
“SOLO - Tamil version if given a chance to release once the strike is over will release AS IS ! @aniljain13 is a rockstar of a producer,” he tweeted, referring to Anil Jain, the producer of the Tamil version. —
