'Communist films' might bring to mind propaganda films of USSR. But much after the collapse of the Iron Curtain, many filmmakers across the world have made films praising or critiquing the ideology. Nivin Pauly's recently released Sakhavu (Comrade) and Tom Emmaty's Oru Mexican Aparatha are two Malayalam films that deal with the subject.
