Actors Madhavan and Simran worked together in K Balachander’s Tamil film Paarthale Paravasam (2001) and then in Mani Ratnam’s Kannathil Muthamittal (2002). The latter film, critically acclaimed and revisited by film buffs, had Madhavan and Simran adopting a girl child abandoned by a Sri Lankan refugee. The heartwarming social drama had the young girl going in search of her mother (Nandita Das), with her adopted parents in tow, into the conflict zones of Sri Lanka.
Now 17 years later, Madhavan and Simran are re-uniting for a space drama, a biopic on Nambi Narayanan. Scientist Nambi Narayanan, a Padma Bhushan awardee, was falsely charged with espionage. The charges were dismissed by the CBI in 1996, and the Supreme Court gave him a clean chit in 1998.
A collage set of photos with Simran posted by Madhavan on his Instagram page has sent fans into a nostalgic high, especially since he captioned it ‘Thiru and Indira’ - the names of the characters they both played in Kannathil Muthamittal.
