Atlee’s Bigil may have received mixed response from film critics but the filmmaker received a huge endorsement from Bollywood producer-director Karan Johar on Wednesday, who called Atlee a “superstar director”. Johar tweeted, “What an absolute festive joy #BIGIL is!!A roller coaster of emotions, triumph and an unparalleled adrenalin rush! #ThalapathyVijay is in top form and makes you want to whistle along! He is BRILLIANT! @Atlee_dir goes on to prove he is the master of This game!! SUPERSTAR DIRECTOR (sic).”

There has been mounting speculation that Atlee may be moving on to Bollywood for his next film ever since he was spotted with Shah Rukh Khan during an IPL game. Shah Rukh Khan also visited the filmmaker’s office in Chennai during the 2019 IPL edition, leading to buzz that Atlee may be making a film with the actor soon. He addressed the speculation on Twitter during a recent chat with his fans. “i have a huge amount of love and respect for #SRK sir and he also loves my work. Soon, hopefully, we will do something about it. (sic),” Atlee tweeted.

It is also the second time this month that Karan Johar has tweeted hyperboles about a Tamil film. Earlier this month, Johar wrote this about Vetri Maaran’s Asuran on Twitter: “What a film #Asuran is!!! Hits you hard and is riveting right through! Blown away by #VetriMaaran’s craft and story telling!!!! And @dhanushkraja is beyond amazing! Rock solid performance! His calm before the storm is unmatchable! Please watch it! Cinema victory!”

Johar also launched the teaser to Amala Paul’s Aadai earlier this year.
