• Love released in the United Arab Emirates, besides Qatar and Saudi Arabia. “Before the pandemic struck, I had planned two projects with Khalid, Tovino Thomas-starrer Thallumala and another film with Kunchacko Boban. During the lockdown we all were frustrated being cooped at home. That’s when Khalid came up with this story and I was all for producing it. When restrictions on film shootings were relaxed, we decided to go ahead,” says Ashiq Usman, producer of Love . His latest production Anjaam Pathira was a box office success. He adds that the producers’ association was not happy when the project was announced since it was assumed to be an OTT release. “However, in the letter given to the association, I had stated that the film will be released in theatres, OTT platforms and channels. Although OTT has emerged as a game-changer, it can’t replace a theatre experience. Our film was ready and so I decided to take it to theatres. I still don’t know how many people will turn up with only 50% of seating capacity being allowed. But someone had to take this step,” he says.
