Pan-Indian actor Dhanush recently celebrated turning 36 on July 28, and was subsequently conferred a new title of ‘Ilaya Superstar’ (in the vein of Vijay’s Ilayathalapathy perhaps) by his fans.
What’s more, at a fan-organised birthday celebration, famed Kollywood producer Kalaipuli S. Thanu — the man behind superhits like Rajinikanth’s Kabali and Vijay’s Theri — also stated that this would become his sobriquet.
Ilaya Superstar (meaning Young Superstar) is an obvious derivative for Dhanush, inspired from the ‘Superstar’ tag his father-in-law Rajinikanth has carried for decades.
However, at a party held for family and friends, Dhanush requested everyone, including his fans, to abandon the title and that he prefers being called just by his name. Even at an earlier audio launch of his film, the actor had said the same about such monikers, unlike many other Tamil actors who clamour to have a title added to their names on the introduction card.
On the work front, Dhanush has Karthik Subbaraj’s untitled venture, Vetrimaaran’s Asuran as well as Vada Chennai 2 , and Gautham Menon’s Enai Noki Paayum Thota in the pipeline.
