Pather Panchali

The greatest ever on the glory of life in India by Satyajit Ray, and when I watched it in USA, in 1975, the audience stood and applauded after every part!

Becket

An overblown drama between the king and his friend, who uses the position given by the king to antagonise his authority, with powerful performances from Burton and O’Toole.

Cries and whispers

The story of three sisters, told in a poignant way by the great Ingmar Bergman, will make one cry and realise that feelings remain the same, irrespective of geography.

Thevar Magan

A Tamil rural blast with violence in the end, from director Bharathan, featuring the rivalry between two families down south, with a memorable performance from the great Sivaji Ganesan.

Drishyam

A gem from the Malayalam stable, with an inconveniently-placed family, and a head who wants to protect them at any cost, with a realistic performance from Mohanlal.

Rajaraman,

Fremont, USA
