For Dwarakish, life comes full circle with 'Ayushmanbhava'

After producing 'Mayor Muttanna' for Dr Rajkumar in 1969, the banner now helms 'Ayushmanbhava' for the icon’s son Shivarajkumar in 2019!

Ayushmanbhava starring Shivarajkumar is set to hit the screens on November 15. The film is the 52nd production of the 50-year-old Dwarakish Chitra banner. Dwarakish, who produced Mayor Muttanna for Dr Rajkumar in 1969, is producing Ayushmanbhava 50 years later for the icon’s son, Shivarajkumar.

Ayushmanbhava is the 100th film of music composer Gurukiran. P Vasu, who gave successful box office hits such as Aaptamitra and Aaptarakshaka, is directing the film. Originally, the film was titled Anand, the name of Shivarajkumar’s début film in 1986. The producer and director later decided to change the title to Ayushmanbhava “to let the classics remain” according to Yogish, Dwarakish’s son and producer of the film.

Vasu says, “The film has everything the audience expects from Shivarajkumar — action, romance, sentiment and horror.” The director is all praise for Shivarajkumar and says, “He is the only actor who can handle a complicated character like Krishna. The film is a family entertainer, which depicts how disintegration of joint families has torn the social fabric. Veteran actor Ananth Nag plays an important role.”

For Dwarakish, life comes full circle with 'Ayushmanbhava'

Shivarajkumar says, “Dwarakish is like a family member. I was seven years old when he produced Mayor Muttanna and his banner is one of the biggest banners in Kannada cinema.”

Dwarakish is a name to reckon with in Kannada cinema. The characters he played has entertained audiences for the last 57 years. He made his début in Kannada cinema with Veera Sankalpa, directed by his uncle Hunsur Krishnamurthy.

Dwarakish, who admits to being in love with cinema, has been involved in many aspects of the trade including acting, directing, producing and distributing films.

Looking back, the 75-year-old actor says, “I have accepted both success and failure with stoicism. Even when I failed financially, I stood by my conviction for the film,” he smiles attributing his success to Dr Rajkumar and Mayor Muttanna.

Dwarakish was able to produce a Rajkumar film at a time when producers were fighting for the matinee idol’s dates. The film was Mayor Muttanna, a classic from the 60s, which was produced with a budget of ₹ 2 lakh. The hit film tackled Bengaluru’s civic issues. He has acted in over 40 films with Rajkumar and the duo, like Rajkumar and comedian Narasimharaju, were a successful combination at one point of time. Dwarkish is elated as his banner has produced films with both Rajkumar and his son, Shivarajkumar.

Dwarkish also credits Dr Vishnuvardhan for his success. They have made 19 films together. His banner, Dwarakish Chitra, completed 50 years recently.

Dwarakish has also produced films with actors like Ambareesh and Shankar Nag. Inspired by the Tamil film, Ulagam Sutrum Valiban starring MGR, Dwarakish produced Singapurnalli Rajakulla, which was extensively shot in Singapore and Malaysia.

Dwarakish Chitra is known for announcing the release date of a film on the day songs are recorded. Known to be adventurous, he got Kishore Kumar to sing for Kulla Agent 000 and asked Bappi Lahari to score music for Africadalli Sheela.
