'Challenging Star' Darshan's nephew Manoj, now becomes leading man

Kannada film 'Takkar' will star Manoj and Ranjani Raghavan, who is a known name on the small screen

The teaser and songs of the film Takkar witnessed a starry attendance from the Kannada film fraternity. The film drew a lot of attention as it marks the debut of actor Manoj, who also is the nephew of 'Challenging Star' Darshan.

Manoj has teamed up with Ranjani Raghavan, who is a known name on the small screen. Sreedhar, film director Aravind Kaushik and Doddanna were also there to support Manoj and the team in their venture.

The event, was held at Kalavidara Sangha, Chamarajpet, last weekend, and the venue was thronged by fans of ‘D-Boss’ Darshan.

While the wait was on for Darshan, a shy Manoj, smiled politely and answered questions posed by the media. He spoke about the film and his role. “It is on the lines of a crime thriller; a cyber crime with all the elements of a commercial film.”

As he posed in front of the poster of his film, one could definitely see the uncanny resemblance the actor bore to his uncle.

Manoj is not new to acting. In the past, he has shared the screen with his uncle in films like Ambareesha and Chakravarthy. This is the first film in which he plays the protagonist.

Takkar is directed by Raghu Shastry, who has earlier directed Run Anthony. The film has William David as the DoP, known for his work in Anup Bhandari’s Rangi Taranaga.

Darshan finally made it to the venue amidst hysterical chants from his hardcore fans. It was said that he had rushed straight from the sets of his next grand venture, Roberrt.

Darshan wasted no time and was quick to release the film’s teaser and two songs. He even kept his speech short when asked to speak a few words about Takkar. “I can see the hard work of the entire team in Takkar. I have seen Manoj work extra hard to build his character. Becoming a hero is not great, but working in collaboration with the producer and making his dream a reality, is great. I can see that effort from the entire cast.”

The team on stage seemed as in awe with the star as his fans in the auditorium. Nagesh Kogilu, the producer of the film, said he was, “thankful to Darshan for all the help and his involvement in the making of the film and his suggestions for improvement. The main thing he stressed on was ‘not to waste the producer’s money’, which is rarely thought about while a film is being made”, said the producer.

Manoj became emotional as Darshan hugged him after the launch, “I am speechless as I am overwhelmed to have him by my side. I am also thrilled that he made time to launch our film.”

Manoj also said he was thankful to director Dinakar Toogudeep (who is also Darshan’s brother), “for his guidance and for teaching me how to choose a script and develop my character. Takkar is a thriller set in the backdrop of a cyber crime. It talks about how women are exploited and how careful they should be when they are in the virtual space.”
