Saravanan apologises on the show

Host Kamal Haasan has not issued any statement yet regarding the controversy

Last week, Paruthiveeran actor Saravanan admitted to molesting and groping women on buses on an episode of Bigg Boss Tamil, while host Kamal Haasan was talking about the issue of director Cheran allegedly ‘manhandling’ fellow contestant Meera Mithun.

Now, after a clip of his admission and the audience clapping enthusiastically to his comments went viral on social media, Saravanan was asked to apologise on the show by Bigg Boss. Singer Chinmayi Sripada was among the first to share the clip, appalled that such an incident could be telecast on television.

Saravanan was called inside the confession room towards the end of the episode, where the voice of Bigg Boss told him that he had to administer an unconditional apology for his opinion, and that the channel will not tolerate any such activities that insult a woman.

The actor immediately apologised and added that he was cut off on the earlier episode before he could finish his statement. “I’ve done small mistakes during my college days just like others too. My intention was to inform people that nobody should partake in such activities, but I couldn’t finish my sentence. There is punishment for sure — which is why I keep telling everyone about my mistakes, to warn them against it. I am not the same man anymore, and I apologise if I’ve hurt anyone.”

Kamal Haasan has also come in for a lot of criticism for not calling out Saravanan on stage and jovially carrying on with the show, ignoring his admission of guilt. The host is yet to respond, but is expected to make a statement this weekend when he appears on the show.
