An actor and a teacher, Nisa NP essays both roles with ease. How? “I like to do the things I like, that I am passionate about. Teaching, communicating with kids gives me much joy,” she says over phone from Perinthalmanna. Acting is her other love.

The congratulations for her role in Ente Mezhuthiri Athazangal haven’t stopped pouring in. As Thulasi she has won many hearts. In a couple of scenes, Nisa gives life to Thulasi who touched many hearts. “She is a cancer survivor, some would be tempted to judge her for the choices she makes. In fact I was afraid it would be a cliché, it did not in fact it struck a chord,” Nisa says. This is her third outing in films, she has acted in VK Prakash’s Careful and a short film by Vijay Babu, Canvas .

A former broadcast journalist, anchoring a film-based show introduced her to people in the industry. The contacts established, while on that job, led her to the opportunities in cinema. Her tryst with the stage started as a contestant for a reality show, which helped tap into the artist in her. A B.Ed she hadn’t yet begun teaching, when she participated in the show. After the show, she enrolled for a course in journalism and ended up working for the television channel, as news reader.

“I got interested in films, but I had no idea how one goes about it. My anchoring the show led me to films,” she says. Nisa started teaching only recently, in June this year. So is it quits with journalism? “No, like I said, that too will happen side by side. Journalism gives me the space to do what I want and how.” She has also walked the ramp for designers and for fashion shows. Up next for her is Vipin Atley’s next project, “The characters is the pole opposite of Thulasi.”
