Michael Madana Kama Rajan

High Five

One of the finest comedies I have ever seen, with excellent dialogues by Crazy Mohan, versatile acting by Kamal Haasan, and able direction by Singeetham Srinivasa Rao. Kamal excelled in all four roles, Kameshwaran being the pick of the lot. Character artistes like Nagesh and Urvashi are top-class in the film.

Ek Din Pratidin

High Five

A Mrinal Sen classic, I love the film because of its offbeat storyline and excellent direction. The story revolves around a middle-class Bengali girl who doesn’t return home from work one evening. The story is built around characters known to her, and how they try to find her whereabouts.

Ardh Satya

High Five

This is a masterpiece from Govind Nihalani. Debut actors Om Puri and Sadashiv Amrapurkar excel in their respective roles, with able support from Naseeruddin Shah and Amrish Puri. This is one of the best cop films ever made, and without any songs.

High Five

Gulzar’s Koshish was a classic offbeat film on the struggles of a deaf-mute couple, excellently portrayed by Sanjeev Kumar and Jaya Bhaduri.

The film was like a whiff of fresh air during a time dominated by star-driven films and love triangles.

The Terminal

High Five

I have always been an ardent admirer of Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks. In this movie, Tom Hanks gets stuck at the JFK airport, after a civil war breaks out in his country. How Hanks spends his days in the airport forms the story. Spielberg tackles a very serious subject with humour.
