A DETERMINED CHARACTER Rashmi Desai

Rashmi Desai, who awed the audience with her performance in Uttaran , is back with another show, Dil Se Dil Tak . Appearing on television after a gap of three years, this show deals with the theme of surrogacy In an interaction, the actor talks about the serial and her role.

Edited excerpts:

What is the concept behind this show and how it is different ?

The show revolves around a wealthy Gujarati couple. However, they have no children. Hailing from a traditional Gujarati family, I knowthat a child is an important part of the family. Since the woman cannot conceive, she takes recourse to surrogacy. But there are a lot of hurdles and time is running out for the couple.

TV has not dealt with the issue of surrogacy, so what made you chose this role? Is the show based on Chori Chori Chupke Chupke ?

I think it is a different and bold concept. Surrogacy is a different way to show the value of relationships and culture. I won’t deny the reference to the Bollywood film.

What is your role and how different is it from the other roles that you've played?

I play a Bengali girl, a homemaker, from whom, the family expects a lot. She is educated and could have led an independent life but she gets married and faces a lot of troubles in marital life. But she is determined and with her husband’s support faces her problems.

What kept you away from TV for so long?

Nothing really kept me away. I realised that I was constantly doing things and was not giving time to my family and myself. But I felt that I was missing somethingand that is when I decided to do do something very different.

Your debut Gujarati film, Superstar , released recently. How was the experience?

I had a really good time shooting for the film. I enjoyed myself. The movie is doing great, and I am very happy about it.

Dil Se Dil Tak airs on Colors TV.
