Balasaraswati

Balasaraswati

Balasaraswati’s direct descendant is Lakshmi, her daughter and disciple. She passed away in 2002 and the mantle has fallen on her son Aniruddha. Those who learnt at Bala’s Music Academy school were: Indira Reddy, Vijaya, Uma-Rama, Shyamala, Shashikala, Jayanti, Chandrakala, Rajimani, Mathangi, Geeta, Suguna and Saratkala. Of a later period were Deepika, Dalia, Uma (runs a school in California), Ranjani, Vijayasri and Savitri.

Many benefited from the camps Bala conducted in the U.S. cities. Prominent are Kay Poursine, well-known soloist and Kamala Caesar, who founded the Lotus Centre for Music and Dance in New York. Eva Solres, Kauren Paul, Bonnie Novokov, Merrimack Lobel, Celin Chandon, Aggie Brennmen, Karen Elliot, Emily Maine, Masa Snyder, Niyati, Medha Yodh, Leslie Egashira, Francesca Bogatta and Peggy Day trained at the residencies.
