For Jollee Abraham, music is a tool to bridge gaps. And, that’s why the playback singer — who has worked with Ilaiyaraaja and M S Viswanathan, among others — founded the Musi-Care Cultural & Charitable Trust in 2001. He wanted to help the poor and the ailing with his music.
Musi-Care 2017, a 12-hour-long concert, is an annual music event organised by the trust, which has featured big names such as Yesudas and S Janaki. The 17th edition of the show, which will be held this weekend, will feature choir music.
The event aims to raise money for the disadvantaged and differently-abled, and help them with education and livelihood. For instance, they offer some people sewing machines to make a living.
“Everyone is welcome here,” says Abraham, who has conceptualised the event.
There will also be a blood donation booth at the venue. “We have also tied up with Sankara Nethralaya for hosting an eye donation camp.”
They recognise people for their outstanding work in the field of social service with the Good Samaritan award, every year. “The idea is to encourage and appreciate good work.”
