It was a riot at Tribe, The Park as Nitinn R Miranni presented,‘Shouldn’t have said that’. The Dubai-based comedian was there at the invitation of Vizag Komedians.

The flavour of his humour, in his own words was ‘glocal’ and covered everything from Airline rules and the obsession of Indian men with Bangkok to religion and his relationships. “ It is a sneak peek into my life and my opinions on things that leaves the audience thinking ‘Oh my god he shouldn’t have said that, but he is actually right,’” he says.

Nitinn declares that ‘Shouldn't have said that’ describes him perfectly. “In the Middle East, there are many things we are not allowed to speak about, but once in a while things slip out, and I think to myself, ‘Shouldn’t have said that’,” says Nitinn. He has had a good run of this show at Mumbai, Shillong, Bengaluru and Paris.

The comedian believes that performing in Dubai has helped him hone his skills. “There are several restrictions while performing in Middle East. Initially, it did bother me but over the years I realised that the‘restrictions’ were actually a great way to discipline oneself and not rely on the use of foul language to be funny. I feel that many times when you are asked to not use a certain word, the replacement is much funnier,” he says.

“I used to host shows and regularly would be asked to fill in spots in case an artist was late or cancelled. I used to do that with stand up comedy and noticed that people enjoyed the routine. It began with just two or three minutes of stage time which they became 10 minutes and now I have a strong two hour show,” says Nitinn who has been around this business for about a decade now. He has 10,000 subscribers on YouTube. Finding humour in mundane activities is important, he insists. “From the time I land in a city I make it a point to have local references in my performance to create a bond with the crowd. Comedians have a keen eye for detail in regular things and extract humour out of it. Hence you will always find a group of people laughing away because they have been in the same situation and can relate to it,” he adds.
