Febin Anto, a mechanical engineer, is all set to screen his first short film — These Days this weekend in the city. Written and directed by him, the film is dedicated to mothers. “I have always been passionate about films and was exposed to the arts of filmmaking from a young age as I had an uncle who at a time was passionately involved in filmmaking,” says Febin, who built a small team, once he had his script ready.
The story, he adds, is inspired by the events from his own life. “It revolves around a young techie. His relationship with his mother and colleagues, how he takes things for granted at home and gets impatient with his mother. The film is a subtle representation of how the young man copes with these emotional struggles in his life,” narrates the young filmmaker, who soon plans to make a feature film. He adds that These Days is a story that everyone can relate to “for most parents would have gone through these issues with their children at some point. I reacted the same way when I bought my mother a smartphone and she kept asking me how to use it,” states Febin, who during his final months of MBA, completed a diploma course in scriptwriting at Anupam Kher’s Actor Prepares institute in Mumbai.
“Though it was a comprehensive course covering all the aspects of film making, I believe script writing is something you can learn in a classroom. But, directing is something you learn while you are on the job. It cannot be taught but has to flow from within as it is a complete creative space.”
Anto soon plans to send his film through the global festival circuit and release it on YouTube on May 14 (Mother’s Day).
The film will be screened on May 6 at Atta Galatta at 4 p.m.
These Days in Hindi and English features Akash Tyagi in the lead, Usha Vinod as the mother along with Salil, Aishwarya Hiremath and Arun Duvva to name a few in supporting roles.
The film is edited by Christy Sebastian, cinematography is by Govind Saji and background score is by Sanjay Menon.
