Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) candidate Dr. M.Sanjay Kumar opened the account for ruling party by wresting the prestigious Jagtial Assembly seat from the Congress by a convincing margin of over 60,774 votes.

Incidentally, Jagtial became the first result in the counting of votes for Telangana Assembly. The TRS candidate got 1,03,213 votes against Congress nominee's 42,439 votes. The BJP came a distant third with 4,719. A total of 1,57,889 votes were polled.

It was a sweet revenge for Dr. Sanjay as he defeated the Congress Deputy floor leader in the dissolved Assembly T. Jeevan Reddy. It was the other way round in 2014 when Mr. Reddy had defeated Dr. Sanjay.

It was a shot in the arm for the Nizamabad MP Kalvakuntla Kavitha, who had taken it as a prestige issue to defeat the Congress party. Right from the beginning, Dr. Sanjay forged ahead trailing his Congress rival. After half of the 14 rounds of counting were completed, it became clear the doctor was on his way to make a debut in the Telangana Assembly.

The 51-year-old medical practioner is well known in Jagtial town. The official Facebook page of Dr. Sanjay Kumar says his favourite books are on Swami Vivekananda and loves melodies of Ilayaraja. His favourite quotation is “Democracy is being allowed to vote for the candidate you dislike least”. His interests is to serve the poor people.
