Actor-turned-politician Nandamuri Harikrishna’s daughter and TDP founder N.T. Rama Rao’s granddaughter Nandamuri Suhasini has sought the blessings of the people ahead of her foray into electoral politics.

Ms. Suhasini, a surprise choice of the TDP leadership for Kukatpally Assembly constituency in poll- bound Telangana, said the stage for realisation of her aspirations to become a people-oriented politician have materialised after the TDP leadership has nominated her as its candidate from Kukatpally constituency.

She will be the second member from the Nandamuri clan, as NTR’s family is known, to contest the Assembly from Telangana. NTR himself contested unsuccessfully from Kalwakurthy constituency in 1989.

Ms. Suhasini said she would file her nomination papers on Saturday in the presence of senior TDP leaders after paying homage to NTR and her father Harikrishna who recently died in a road accident. She evaded replies when asked whether her brothers, film stars Kalyan Ram and Junior NTR, would campaign for her claiming that she would give clarity about her future course of action and related questions after filing her nomination papers.

The TDP leadership had preferred Ms. Suhasini to senior leader E. Peddi Reddy apparently with an eye on the huge chunk of electorate hailing from Andhra Pradesh settled in Kukatpally. There was initial opposition to the decision to field her from a section of party leaders including M. Srinivas, the local corporator who made strong pitch for his nomination, but the TDP leadership has reportedly convinced them about the need to support Ms. Suhasini.
