Thanurimaikkaga Vottu Podu! Mannurimaikkaga Votu Podu! – a reggae-styled composition by musician Paul Jacob and singer Blaaze to encourage more youth to cast their votes on May 16 Assembly polls, would soon be hitting the movie screens across the State.
Evidently attempting to attract the attention of college-going youth and young professionals into casting their votes on the polling day, the noted composer and the star singer have come forward with their composition to aid the efforts of the Election Commission of India.
“They have come forward with this composition. They would also be performing in some places. We are making arrangements with cinema theatres and malls to play this song from this Friday,” Chief Electoral Officer, Rajesh Lakhoni, said.
The composition, originally two minutes and 45 seconds long, would be made into a one-minute video song to be played in about 670 cinema theatres across the State.
“Though I was born in Chennai, I was raised in Africa, since my father went there for work. I was exposed to this form of music there and I thought of putting that to use to promote awareness on voting. We have been composing music for actors in films and this would be for us, for this country,” Blaaze said.
“We hope this would become a hit among youth by going viral,” composer Paul Jacob added.
The Chief Electoral Officer has been taking efforts to increase the voting percentage in the State, especially among youth between 18 and 25 years. It may be noted that the CEO has earlier roped in social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook to encourage voters to cast their vote on May 16.
