Committed to the ideology

Communist Party of India leader A. Mohan, who is contesting the polls from Veerapandi in Salem district, hails from a traditional Communist family. Though the 48-year-old leader has not received much formal education — he has studied only up to third standard— he is deeply committed to the cause of Communism. It is apparent from the fact his three sons have pretty unique names. The eldest, M. Communism, is an advocate while M. Leninism is a qualified Chartered Accountant.M. Socialism, the youngest son , is a B.Com graduate.

They knew what was coming

To the advocates at the Madras High Court Bench in Madurai, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s announcement regarding prohibition did not come as a surprise. Additional Advocate-General K. Chellapandian, the lawyers point out, indicated on August 13 last year that the CM would take a decision at the right time. Mr. Chellapandian apparently made the remark during a hearing on a PIL plea filed by MDMK general secretary Vaiko’s younger brother, V. Ravichandran.
