In a veiled-yet-pointed attack on the VCK, R. Easwaran, General Secretary of Kongunadu Makkal Desiya Katchi, suggested that “the politics of inter-caste marriages’ was a threat to the safety of women.

He was speaking at the western regional conference organised by the party here on Sunday. “We can go to the government for development of industries and growth; but to whom do we go to for the safety of our women?

Are we talking caste, when we say, women should not marry without the parental consent?” asked Mr. Easwaran.

Keeping up the party’s stand on SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, Mr. Easwaran said the part had helped secure anticipatory bails in over 800 PCR cases.

Displeasure over PMK leader

In the same vein, the KMDK leader expressed his displeasure over the PMK leader extending support to breakaway factions of KMDK, without naming the outfit.

According to Mr.Easwaran, the party was a force to reckon with for victory in the 2016 Assembly elections.
