Putting to rest the speculation about differences between Congress leaders Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot, the party announced on November 14 that both of them will fight the 2018 Rajasthan Assembly Elections.
Both Mr. Gehlot, a former Chief Minister of the State and Mr. Pilot who is current the Pradesh Congress Committee president are contenders for the Chief Minister’s post if Congress wins Rajasthan.
" Hum bhi ladenge aur Sachin bhi ladenge ," Mr. Gehlot said at a press conference at Congress headquarters.
Mr. Gehlot has been contesting Sardarpura constituency in Jodhpur from 1998. Mr. Pilot was reluctant to get pinned to a single constituency. He has been an MP from Dausa and Ajmer parliamentary constituencies. This will be his first Assembly election.
"As per orders of Congress president Rahul Gandhi and request of Ashok Gehlot ji I will be contesting in the Assembly election," Mr. Pilot said.
In another boost for the Congress, BJP MP from Dausa Harish Chandra Meena joined the Congress . He is an ex-DGP who joined the BJP in 2014 and has considerable presence in the area.
