Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of betraying the unemployed youth by making a “false promise” of providing employment to two crore persons every year during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
He said Mr. Modi had deceived the youth, who were in distress, while four youngsters in Rajasthan’s Alwar town had killed themselves.
Addressing a series of election rallies in Rajasthan ahead of the December 7 polling, Mr. Gandhi said though Mr. Modi had made a commitment for giving employment, he forgot it after becoming the chowkidaar (gatekeeper) of the country.
He said Mr. Modi, in each of his speeches, raises the slogan of “ Bharat Mata Ki Jai, ” but works to serve the interests of rich industrialists.
“When you talk about Bharat Mata, how can you forget farmers? The sentiments of crores of youths, women and labourers are equally important,” Mr. Gandhi said, adding that the Narendra Modi government had not waived off even a single rupee of farmers' loans, but had written off bad debts worth ₹3.5 lakh crore.
