‘No mention of Manipur in Naga deal’

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday accused the ruling Congress in Manipur of playing politics on the framework agreement between the Centre and the NSCN(IM). Mr. Singh was addressing an election rally in Imphal ahead of the Assembly polls next month.

Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh and students’ groups have been calling the Centre to disclose details of the agreement, signed on August 3, 2015.

Countering the Congress’ campaign that the territorial integrity of the State is threatened by the agreement, Mr. Singh said, “Manipur is not even mentioned [in the agreement].”

Mr. Singh blamed the State government for the protracted economic blockade by the Naga Students’ Federation, saying it had not sent a representative for the tripartite talks. “The Centre had sent paramilitary forces as requested by the Manipur government,” he pointed out.
