The Assam government on Thursday decided not to allow victory processions after declaration of results in 11 sensitive districts, including four districts of Bodoland Territorial Area District (BTAD).
The State Level Crisis Management Group, after reviewing security arrangements for Fridays counting of votes, also decided to keep the Army in stand-by mode for quick deployment. Helicopter surveillance will continue in all vulnerable areas of BTAD and along India-Bhutan border.
An official release stated that more than 100 companies of Central and State armed police forces had been deployed to deal with any eventuality in the BTAD and adjoining districts. 141 fixed security pickets and 35 mobile pickets have been set up in these areas, the release added. The measures came in the wake of three terror attacks in BTAD on May1 and 2 that claimed 46 lives.
