AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Tuesday accused the Narendra Modi-led NDA government of failing to fulfil the promises made during the 2014 Lok Sabha polls and adopting anti-poor policies.

Ms. Gandhi said the BJP was full of arrogance but the people would soon show them its place in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi should have the courage to fight this election based on issues related to unemployment, farmers’ distress and problems of women. They [BJP] must tell people what the NDA government has done to the poor,” Ms. Vadra said at a rally in Ambala.

Ms. Gandhi said the BJP was trying to deflect the attention from its failures over the last five years by hiding behind the facade of nationalism.

“The BJP government is anti-youth, anti-farmer and anti-women. Their decision of demonetisation benefited only the rich and the poor had to suffer. There was loss of jobs in cities after demonetisation. Later, when people from cities returned to their villages, they couldn’t find job because the BJP government had weakened the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) scheme, which the Congress-led government had started.”

Ms. Vadra said the distress of farmers across the country has increased but the “Modi” government was insensitive towards problems in agricultural sector. “Nearly 12,000 farmers have committed suicide during the BJP regime but yet the government continues to be indifferent,” she said.

“I would like to tell you [Narendra Modi] that our nation has never forgiven arrogance,” Ms. Vadra said.
