Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) president Thol. Thirumavalavan on Sunday described the alliance by the DMK, the Congress, the VCK and the Left parties as “sacrosanct” whereas the rival front, led by the AIADMK, has been formed on the basis of “seats and notes”.

Canvassing in Vanur for D. Ravikumar, VCK general secretary who is contesting on the DMK’s Rising Sun symbol in Villupuram Parliamentary constituency, Mr. Thirumavalavan said that the DMK-led alliance had been formed to drive away the Narendra Modi-led BJP government. It was the common aspiration of people that Mr. Modi should not come back as Prime Minister. In Tamil Nadu, the AIADMK had been functioning as a branch of the BJP.

It was appropriate that DMK president M.K. Stalin had proposed All India Congress Committee president Rahul Gandhi as the next Prime Minister. If Mr. Modi was given an opportunity again, he would do away with the basic principles of the Constitution framed by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.

Wave against BJP

The VCK president said that a strong anti-Modi wave was prevalent in Tamil Nadu and exhorted party workers to ensure that the DMK-led front emerged victorious in all the 40 Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

“We should protect the Constitution from communal forces and ensure that the welfare of the downtrodden is taken care of,” he said.

Referring to PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss’s alleged speech at a public meeting “instigating” his supporters to commit booth capturing, he said that the DMK and its allies would not keep quiet if they attempted to capture the polling booths during elections.
