Sushil Kumar Shinde among veterans who find a place in Congress second list

While five candidates have been announced from Maharashtra, 16 candidates have been announced from Uttar Pradesh.

The Congress on Wednesday announced former Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde as the party’s candidate from Solapur as it released the second list of 21 Lok Sabha candidates.

While five candidates have been announced from Maharashtra, 16 candidates have been announced from Uttar Pradesh. Former Union Minister Milind Deora will be contesting from Mumbai South while Priya Dutt will contest from Mumbai Central-North. Nana Patole has been fielded from Nagpur seat.

A day after the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) had made it clear that Congress will not be part of the BSP- Samajwadi Party alliance, the Congress announced 15 more names.

Leaders from Uttar Pradesh who had recently joined the party have also been accommodated.

Savitri Bai Phule, who switched from the BJP to the Congress, will seek a re-election from Bahraich in U.P., a seat that she won on a BJP ticket in the 2014 election.

Kaisar Jahan, a former BSP leader has been named from Sitaour while former SP leader Rakesh Sachan has been named as the Congress candidate feon Fatehpur, a seat he had once represented.

Omwati Devi, who had joined the party last week, too has been given a ticket from the Nagina constituency, a reserved seat.

U.P. State unit chief Raj Babbar will be contesting from Moradabad.

Former union minister Sriprakash Jaiswal will be contesting from Kanpur, a seat he had won in 2009.

Dr. Sanjay Singh, a Rajya Sabha MP, will be contesting from the Sultanpur Lok Sabha seat while Lalitesh Tripathi will be contesting from Mirzapur.
