At 30 hamlets in Delhi, identified by the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) as ‘vulnerable’, ‘critical’ polling stations will be set up, said officials on Monday.
At these polling stations, special precautions will be taken to ensure smooth functioning, including setting up webcasting facilities, micro observers, CCTV cameras and deployment of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), CEO Ranbir Singh said.
These sensitive hamlets include Rohtas Nagar, Seelampur, Bhonda, Babarpur, Gokalpur among other areas.
These places are identified for possible communal tension, having a large number of jhuggi populations or have intense local or political rivalries.
At these locations, 35 people have been identified as potential threats and preventive action has been taken against them, Mr. Singh said.
Bad characters
“The people are identified as ‘bad characters’ — some are accused of murders, some history sheeters, and a few anti-social elements,” he added.
Action taken includes being “bound down” under different sections of the CrPC, undertaking bonds of good behaviour or arresting, he said.
For centenarians
Apart from this, the CEO said for voters above the age of 100, pick up and drop facility will be provided and they will also be felicitated. So far, 90 such voters have been identified, a senior official said.
The CEO also said up to 1,42,72,012 voters were registered on the electoral roll as of date, an increase of about 5.76 lakh, since the final list of voters for 2019, published on January 18. According to the Delhi’s Chief Electoral Office, 103 candidates filed their nominations on Monday.
The nomination process in Delhi began on April 16 and as on Monday, 185 candidates had filed their nominations, the Delhi CEO office said.
As far as defacement of property is concerned, so far there has been 12 FIRs against AAP, 11 against BJP, 2 against Congress and 1 against BSP.
Besides, there has been 35 DD entries for defacement and poll code violations. Till date, 32,11,972 hoardings/banners/posters have been removed from all over Delhi out ut of which, 30,533 were removed from New Delhi Municipal Council, 43,075 from East Delhi Municipal Corporation, 2,411 from Delhi Cantonment Board, 1,38,598 from South Delhi Municipal Corporation and 1,07, 355 from North Delhi Municipal Corporation, respectively, Mr. Singh said. Under the Delhi Prevention of Defacement of Property Act, 136 FIRs were registered, including 26 against political parties.
