The Congress in the State wants its party president Rahul Gandhi to contest the Lok Sabha election from Karnataka, said the former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday in a tweet.

Soon after, KPCC president Dinesh Gundu Rao also tweeted to this effect, with the hashtag #RaGaFrom Karnataka.

Calling Mr. Gandhi “the next Prime Minister of India”, the Congress Legislature Party leader recalled that his grandmother Indira Gandhi and mother, Sonia Gandhi, too had contested Lok Sabha polls from Karnataka earlier. “Karnataka has always supported & encouraged @INCIndia leaders. It has been proved in case of Smt. Indira ji & Smt. Sonia ji. We also want our next Prime Minister of India Shri. @RahulGandhi to contest from Karnataka & herald new developmental paradigm,” Mr. Siddaramaiah said in a tweet.

Mr. Rao said in his tweet he would urge Mr. Gandhi to consider contesting from Karnataka to be “our representative from South India”.
