Naved Antulay, the son of Congress leader and the first and only Muslim chief minister of the State A.R. Antulay, joined the Shiv Sena on Wednesday.

The party said Naved would not be contesting the polls, but would help Anant Geete, Sena’s candidate for the Raigad constituency, reach out to Muslim voters.

Though Naved has not been politically active, the family had been reportedly feeling increasingly alienated, especially from Antulay’s political disciple Sunil Tatkare, who had joined the NCP and is contesting against Mr. Geete from Raigad. Mr. Tatkare was defeated by Mr. Geete by a slim margin in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
