Wooing voters: Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy, AICC secretary in-charge of Puducherry Sanjay Dutt, PCC chief A. Namassivayam and Congress candidate for the Lok Sabha election V. Vaithilingam at an election meeting in Karaikal on Thursday.

Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy on Thursday reiterated his charge against All India N.R. Congress that it connived with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi to “destabilise the Congress government.”

Addressing workers of the Congress, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the Left parties in Karaikal, the Chief Minister said the principal Opposition party was hand-in-glove with the Centre and the Lt. Governor to stall welfare measures taken by the Congress government.

AINRC’s failure

The Chief Minister said the Lt. Governor tried to delay implementation of free rice scheme, farm loan waiver and recruitment of police constables.

The AINRC, which entered into an understanding with the BJP after the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, failed to get full Statehood for the Union Territory. The principal Opposition party, while in power, had failed to get financial assistance for the U.T., he added.

Pradesh Congress Committee president A. Namassivayam said the party had picked the right candidate for the Lok Sabha election in Mr. Vaithilingam who had proved his mettle as an administrator during his tenure as Chief Minister and other positions. If the Congress returned to power at the Centre, the financial situation would be resolved, he added.

Mr. Vaithilingam, AICC-in charge for the Union Territory Sanjay Dutt, MLA Geetha Anandhan, former Ministers A.V. Subramanian and Nazeem spoke.
