The authorities of western Assam’s Nalbari district would be using Assamese folk art such as biya naam (marriage carols), ojha paali (dance), and dhuliya (percussion ensemble) to drum up awareness among voters for the Lok Sabha election. “We will experiment with these folk art forms from Friday. Apart from adding entertainment, it intends to let the present generation remain grounded in tradition,” the district’s Deputy Commissioner Bharat Bhushan Dev Choudhury told The Hindu . Folk groups in the district have been entrusted with the task of writing scripts and lyrics for the exercise.
