The District Election Officer (DEO) has said that electors photo identity cards (EPICs) should not be collected by anybody other than the person whose card it is or his/her family members.

This was announced by N. Manjunath Prasad, DEO, after launching the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation programme at Jayanagar metro station on Saturday.

If a person is found to posses an EPIC of another person not related to him, it would be a violation of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.

Prior to the 2018 Assembly elections, 9,000-odd cards were seized from a flat in the city. The authorities found that all these cards belonged to voters in Rajarajeshwarinagar Assembly constituency. Polling in this constituency was subsequently deferred.
